Renato Borges has a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Goias (2002), a Master degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Campinas (2004), a Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Campinas (2009) and a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico (2009) (USA). From July 2009 to February 2010 he held a post-doctoral fellowship from the State of São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) working at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Campinas. He is currently an assistant professor at the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Brasilia, Brazil, and a control system researcher affiliated with the Laboratory of Automation and Robotics and with the Aerospace Science and Innovation Laboratory. Among his research interests are Lyapunov stability theory, analysis and design of robust controllers and filters, modeling and control of rotating body, dynamic system analysis under uncertainty, and guidance, navigation and control algorithms based on GNSS and INS.

Currently Dr. Borges coordinates several research and development projects, he is one of the creators and responsible of the Laboratory of Application and Innovation in Aerospace Science (LAICA) at the University of Brasilia, being the current Executive Coordinator of the Council of Representatives of LAICA, the manager and responsible for the domain, and one of those responsible for the cooperation between the University of Brasilia (UnB) and the University of Wakayama (Japan) under the UNIFORM project of microsatellites, having published more than 50 papers among journals and conferences. In December 2013, he was certified by the Brazilian Telecommunication Agency, ANATEL, as an Amateur Radio Station Operator, call sign PU2ERB, being the current responsible for the communication system, and the principal investigator, of the project with high altitude scientific platform, the LAICAnSat, developed at LAICA. He was a member of the organizing committee of the 1st Latin American IAA CubeSat WorkShop, the 1st International Workshop on Smart Grids, and the Brazil-Japan Workshop on development and applications of microsatellites: activities UTokyo, UnB and UNIFORM project.

In the context of GNSS, since June 2014 Dr. Borges has joined the team responsible for the operation of the Quantum and Optical System of Satellite Laser Ranging of Angular and Photometric Measurements (IRLS Site Code BRAL, Station #7407, DOMES#48081S001, 15.7731 S, 132.1347 W) as a substitute coordinator and researcher. This system, projected by the Russian joint-stock corporation Research and Production Corporation - Precision Systems and Instruments, is designed to enhance the quality of navigation support of the GLONASS users in the Latin-American region. Dr. Borges has also participated in the short training course BeiDou/GNSS technologies and applications at the Beihang University, Beijing, China, in April 2015, starting investigations on the field of GNSS point positioning with multiple satellite constellation. He is currently the coordinator of the cooperation project between the UnB and the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) at Trieste, Italy, in the field of Precise Point Position, and related ionospheric studies, in the region of Brasilia using multi GNSS solutions.
